Rural energy crisis, women's work and family welfare: perspectives and approaches to action

Abstract

Working paper on the relationship between the rural energy crisis, particularly fuelwood, rural women's work and family welfare in developing countries. Examines household labour utilization in fuel procurement, including sexual division of labour and child labour. Studies the effects of fuel scarcity on food production and women's income generating activities, family nutrition and health. Discusses forest establishment and agroforestry, as well as more efficient cooking (e.g. use of fuel saving stoves). Bibliography.
