Abstract

Comparison of agrarian structure and labour market mechanisms in Indonesia (Java) and Bangladesh - discusses social controls, labour relations and wage differentials affecting sharecroppers and landless rural workers, the position of rural area Elite, and the need to take account of political aspects as well as economic implications of social change.
