¿Qué hay detrás de las diferencias en la desigualdad entre los países?

Abstract

(Disponible en idioma inglés únicamente) En este trabajo se presentan técnicas de simulación microeconómica para analizar qué es lo que hay detrás de las diferencias en la desigualdad de un país a otro. La simulación descompone las diferencias de desigualdad de un país a otro en la importancia de las decisiones individuales, tales como la fertilidad, la elección de pareja, la participación en la fuerza laboral y la estructura del hogar, mientras que al mismo tiempo se incluye información sobre la importancia de diferentes fuentes de ingresos. La descomposición se aplica a datos de encuestas de hogares de 35 países de seis regiones del mundo. Los resultados empíricos brindan nuevas percepciones sobre los mecanismos de transmisión a través de los cuales se genera la desigualdad.
