Abstract

This article presents the current progress of a Cifre-Défense doctoral research project in management sciences, focused on IT mindfulness and decision-making in extreme contexts. The aim of this doctoral study is to model how IT mindfulness enhances the naturalistic decision-making process in extreme environments characterized by the use of emerging technologies. The research seeks to understand how such technologies may influence decision-making processes at both individual and organizational levels, and to demonstrate that IT mindfulness provides a valuable lens for deepening our understanding of decision-making under extreme conditions. The study begins with a structured literature review divided into three core themes: IT mindfulness, naturalistic decision-making, and extreme contexts. Following the identification of a theoretical gap, the research is framed around the central question: How does IT mindfulness affect the expert's decision-making process in extreme contexts? To address this question, we outline the proposed research methodology and present the adopted epistemological stance. We then introduce the selected research field and detail the anticipated contributions at the theoretical, managerial, and methodological levels. Finally, we describe the forthcoming steps necessary to carry this doctoral research forward.
