Abstract

Aiming to enrich our understanding of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and the associated organisational behaviour, this article looks at the SSE's worker cooperatives (SCOPs), which have important statutory societal commitments. Based on a study of three SCOPs, the article identifies the tools used by these businesses as well as the degree to which CSR is incorporated in their operations in relation to the discourse about this approach. The article thus shows a certain level of homogeneity in the discourse and tools used but differences in practices. By illustrating the particular features of SCOPs in terms of CSR, the study also identifies exemplary behaviour that can be an inspiration for many organisations.
