Abstract

This paper evaluates the main impacts of the internationalization of Brazilian manufacturing on the pass-through coefficients during the second half of the nineties. Throughout this period the Brazilian exchange rate regime has dramatically changed. In addition, it has been possible to examine the first results of the implementation of the new Brazilian development strategy. The aim of the paper is to analyze the effects of the new industrial structure on the prices of the manufacturing sector, emphasizing the price response to higher levels of economic openness and to the strategies developed by transnational companies located in Brazil.
