Abstract

[fre] Les analyses des firmes multinationales se sont tout d'abord développées en utilisant les schémas théoriques de l'économie industrielle traditionnelle (barrières à l'entrée, coûts de transaction). Les nouvelles théories de l'économie industrielle, fondées sur la notion de comportement stratégique, s'appliquent depuis 1987 à ce domaine. L'article a pour but d'effectuer un bilan de la portée explicative des différents modèles, en mettant l'accent sur la portée empirique des différentes analyses. Dans les deux cas, la portée empirique des modèles semble faible. [eng] The aim of the paper is to survey two kinds of explanation for multinational firms. The first is developed in the context of the "old" industrial economics, based on entry barriers and transaction costs, the second in the frame of the "new" industrial economics, based on strategic comportment. It seems that the two approaches fail to explain empirical facts.
