Abstract

As developing economies today are faced with a double challenge of debt and climate crises, this article examines debt for nature swaps (D4NS) from a political economy perspective as these have featured prominently as solution on the international agenda. The article analyzes D4NS limitations and shows why they are no silver bullet. It also explores who benefits and how D4NS could be best designed to realize a developmental impact on economic, sustainability and governance related policy goals.
