¿Quién (des)cuida sus oportunidades? Género, cuidado y desigualdad social

Abstract

En este trabajo analizamos el impacto del trabajo de cuidados, el origen social y la escolaridad en la movilidad social y desigualdad de oportunidades en Nuevo León. Nuestro análisis basado en la Encuesta ESRU-EMOVI Nuevo León 2021 arroja tres hallazgos principales: 1) una persistente influencia de las circunstancias de origen en los resultados socioeconómicos de los neoleoneses, aunque aminorada por un efecto positivo del logro educativo; 2) el carácter trascendental del trabajo de cuidados en la transmisión intra e intergeneracional de las desigualdades; y 3) la desventaja que constituye la distribución desigual de los cuidados no remunerados para las mujeres. Indagar su dilema entre apostar por la movilidad intra versus intergeneracional constituye una aportación novedosa al estudio de las desigualdades sociales en México. Futuros estudios con información a nivel nacional matizarán los efectos relacionados en diferentes subgrupos poblacionales, para derivar en el diseño de un sistema de cuidados público igualador de las oportunidades.
