Abstract

Metaverse unveils a new paradigm changing digital technology that will revolutionize the society by fundamentally altering the basic structure to help achieve sustainability. There is a major research gap in the existing knowledge that would link metaverse with sustainability through information democratization. Highlighting this problem, the current study utilizes the sustainable value framework postulated by Stuart Hart and Mark Milstein in order to explore the key insights for metaverses signature attributes to help create sustainable and resilient businesses. The study recruits a multi method approach to unveil compelling arguments indicating the indispensability of metaverse to create sustainability value portfolio. Results from the study contribute immensely to academia and industrial pursuits to attain sustainability. We created a meta database by gathering data from varied sources and multiple rounds of focus group methods aligned with topics of sustainability value portfolio. Structural topic modelling technique yielded various topics that relates metaverse with sustainability. Finally, sentiment analysis demonstrated the positive sentiment of metaverse as a highly assistive tool to democratize information which helps streamline business operations, signaling to decarbonize technologies. The findings provide key actionable insights for firms to attain sustainable business operations. The study majorly contributes to the literature highlighting the crucial link between metaverse and sustainability by democratizing information access.
