Determinants of primary healthcare efficiency in the Brazilian Legal Amazon: A hybrid approach using Data Envelopment Analysis and Tobit regression

Abstract

•Efficiency was evaluated using bootstrapped DEA with 1000 replications.•Productive, technical, and scale efficiency were assessed for 2019 and 2022.•Tobit regression models explained inefficiency based on Lasso-selected variables.•Urban infrastructure and proximity to capitals shaped municipal inefficiency.•The study provides robust insights for health policy in remote Amazonian areas.
