Abstract

Water scarcity is a critical global challenge, prompting innovative solutions such as desalination technologies powered by renewable energy. This paper investigates the integration of Humidification-Dehumidification (HDH) technology with hybrid renewable energy sources like solar, wind, and geothermal to tackle water shortages sustainably. The study categorizes desalination methods, explores renewable energy utilization, and highlights hybrid HDH systems' enhanced efficiency and productivity. By addressing the limitations of standalone technologies, this work contributes to sustainable development, particularly in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): SDG6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and SDG13 (Climate Action). Furthermore, this review aims to present a thorough examination of the fundamental concepts related to water desalination through the utilization of Humidification-Dehumidification. In addition, this analysis will explore different methods and research, emphasizing the widespread use of solar energy as the primary renewable energy source in the process of desalination. The discussion will focus on the incorporation of Humidification-Dehumidification desalination technology into hybrid systems, highlighting its capacity to enhance productivity and address constraints associated with individual technologies. Multiple research projects will showcase the success and improved efficiency of hybrid systems.
