Abstract

•Extractive waste (EW) help in secondary raw material/critical raw material supply.•Site characterisation is fundamental to evaluate the commodity remains in landfills.•Gorno case study to test and validate the site characterisation framework. Zn (0.65–19.3 wt%), Cd (22–544 ppm), Ga (6.0 – 88.6 ppm) present in Gorno.•Potential economic viability of landfill mining at Gorno EW deposits.
