Creating awareness and informing policy: Implications of Buzby and Hyman’s food loss estimates in the United States

Abstract

•Buzby and Hyman are among the first to quantify the total and per capita economic value of food loss in the U.S.•Findings informed domestic and global policy and shaped the development of sustainable development goals for food loss.•The study had lasting impacts on policy, research, and sustainability efforts through the supply chain to consumer level.
