Understanding and addressing the post-pandemic learning disparities

Abstract

To recover from disruptions caused by COVID-19, five RAPID actions are needed: Reach every child and keep them in school; Assess learning levels regularly; Prioritize teaching the fundamentals; Increase the efficiency of instruction; and Develop psychosocial health and well-being. Data from the Global Education Recovery Tracker survey administered between May to July 2022 and UNICEF’s March 2022 Pulse Survey reveal that fewer than three in four countries have undertaken these RAPID actions. Implementation was particularly weak among low- and lower-middle-income countries where pre-COVID learning levels were lower, suggesting a need for a stronger RAPID implementation to address widening disparities.
