Breakthrough innovation, digital transformation, and firms' long-term competitiveness

Abstract

Based on data from China's A-share listed companies from 2012 to 2023, this study empirically examines the impact of Breakthrough Innovation (BI) and Digital Transformation (DT) on firms' long-term competitiveness. The findings show that: BI significantly enhances firms' long-term competitiveness; BI influences firms' long-term competitiveness by promoting DT; The impact of BI on firms' long-term competitiveness exhibits heterogeneity between high-tech and non–high-tech firms; The effect of BI also varies across eastern, central, and western regions.
