Impact of supply chain finance on enterprise performance: The role of financial and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors

Abstract

Using all A-share listed Chinese companies from 2009 to 2022 as the sample, causal pathways and influence mechanisms of supply chain finance (SCF) on firms’ management and environmental, social, and governance (ESG) manifestation are explored and empirically analyzed in this study. Findings validated through robustness tests indicate that SCF significantly promotes a firm’s financial performance and ESG expression. Furthermore, regression analysis performed on two intermediary variables—financing constraints and green technology innovation—concludes that SCF improves enterprise performance by alleviating financing restriction and promoting green technology innovation.
