Financial support, sports venue investment, and public service improvement

Abstract

Based on an empirical analysis of panel data at the prefecture-level city scale from 2009 to 2023, this paper finds that both financial support and investment in sports venues significantly promote the improvement of public services. Further analysis indicates that investment in sports venues has a significant moderating effect on the relationship between financial support and the enhancement of public services. In addition, the study finds that the moderating role of sports venue investment in the relationship between financial support and public service improvement differs significantly across different GDP and employment levels. Based on the empirical results, this paper recommends that local governments increase fiscal input, rationally plan sports venue investments, and promote the synergy between financial support and sports venue investment to enhance the overall quality of public services.
