Abstract

This study conducts systematic literature review (SLR) and bibliometric analysis on publications related to public procurement in Tanzania. The study included 28 publications spanning from 2013 to 2024, retrieved on June 9th, 2024, in the Scopus database. The findings reveal an increase in research interest from 2016 onward with existing fluctuations, with the highest number of publications experienced in 2022. Local researchers and institutions have been actively engaged in research productivity, with public universities leading the way. The study presents relevant themes which include 'exploration of various dimensions of public procurement in Tanzania, including performance, value for money, and compliance', 'conflict of interests, procurement contracts and negotiations, and participation of SMEs in public procurement', 'factors influencing the performance and effectiveness of public procurement processes', 'the evaluation and enhancement of accountability, transparency, and governance in public procurement processes', and 'supplier management and compliance enforcement in public procurement in Tanzania'. This study provides evidence on the research progress of Tanzanian public procurement, contributing to the growing scientific knowledge of public procurement based on bibliometric analysis and SLR.
