The impact of digital financial inclusion on equity of opportunity in education

Abstract

Under the overarching goal of building a comprehensive education powerhouse, the technological empowerment and inclusive nature of digital finance have injected new momentum into enhancing educational quality and efficiency. This study employs provincial panel data from China (2013–2023) and constructs an educational Gini coefficient to empirically examine the impact of digital inclusive finance on educational equity through a two-way fixed effects model. The findings reveal that the development of digital inclusive finance significantly promotes equitable access to education in China, with its effects moderated by regional economic development levels and demographic factors. Furthermore, digital inclusive finance indirectly enhances educational equity through improved internet penetration rates.
