Labor agglomeration, industrial structure upgrading and low-carbon economic development

Abstract

This paper selects statistical data from 278 prefecture-level cities in China from 2009 to 2022 to explore the development of urban labour agglomeration within a low-carbon economy. It is found that labour agglomeration positively contributes to carbon emission intensity; in cities with a higher level of economic development, labour agglomeration has an inhibitory effect on carbon emission intensity; under the moderating effect of industrial structure upgrading, the positive effect of labour agglomeration on carbon emissions is gradually weakened.
