25 Jahre nach dem Mauerfall: Anmerkungen zum Stand der Deutschen Einheit

Abstract

Mit großen Ambitionen startete vor einem Vierteljahrhundert das Projekt „Deutsche Einheit“. Schon bald, so die verbreitete Erwartung, würden die ostdeutschen Länder sein wie „der Westen“. Heute, 25 Jahre nach dem Mauerfall, sind die wirtschaftlichen Divergenzen zwischen Ostdeutschland und Westdeutschland jedoch noch immer groß; von einer „Angleichung“ wichtiger wirtschaftlicher Indikatoren der materiellen Lebensqualität kann keine Rede sein. Zwar sind die Fortschritte gegenüber der Ausgangslage enorm; solange aber das Ziel der Gleichwertigkeit (oder gar Einheitlichkeit) der Lebensverhältnisse Richtschnur für die Beurteilung der Situation in den ostdeutschen Ländern bleibt, kann der „Aufbau Ost“ nicht als abgeschlossen gelten. Weitere Anstrengungen sind erforderlich, um die wirtschaftliche Situation in Ost - deutschland zu verbessern.
