Globalization and regional industrial performance: Evidence from China

Abstract

type="main" xml:lang="es"> Este estudio examina el papel de la globalización en el rendimiento industrial (RI) en China. A partir de seis años (2005–2010) de datos de 21 sectores manufactureros de 31 provincias/regiones, construimos cuatro indicadores del RI con los que estimar cómo influye la globalización en la capacidad industrial de China y la composición tecnológica a través de la inversión extranjera directa (IED) y el comercio exterior. El panel de estimación de los resultados sugiere que tanto la IED como el comercio exterior generan fuertes efectos positivos en la producción manufacturera y las exportaciones de productos manufacturados, pero que las contribuciones a la modernización industrial y la complejidad tecnológica parecen limitadas. A nivel regional, el efecto de la IED y el comercio en el RI es numéricamente mucho menor en la zona del interior que en la zona costera.
