La globalisation de l'economie mondiale resulte de la reorganisation de la production sur une base mondiale et non plus nationale. Le chapitre 1 du present rapport souligne que les firmes approvisionnent le marche global sur la base d'une articulation renouvelee entre produits et processus de production. Le chapitre 2 reflechit en termes de coherence des systemes productifs regionaux. Le chapitre 3 vise a comparer les performances relatives de quatre zones declarantes en 1992 : la CE, l'AELE, les Etats-Unis et le Japon et montre l'importance des flux croises intra- produit , en particulier pour les pays de la Communaute europeenne. Completant cette approche, le chapitre 4 cerne le phenomene de "commerce intra-branche" en integrant une distinction entre differenciation horizontale et verticale (refletant une difference de qualite).
