Abstract

In the twentieth century, the high-tech sector of the world economy played a decisive role in economic development, radically changing many industries and technologies and improving the quality of people's lives. At present, in the 21st century, the role of high-tech industries continues to grow. In the context of the need to search for non-primary factors of growth in the Russian economy, its advantages and limitations are discussed. The territorial and sectoral structure of the sector in Russia is described in detail, a high proportion of knowledge-intensive industries is noted. A detailed analysis of the significant characteristics of the development of the high-tech sector (wages, exports, introduction of innovations, exchange of technologies, etc.) is given. The main trends in the development of technologically complex industries are analyzed, in particular, the causes and consequences of the observed increase in the share of the entire sector in the Russian economy are discussed. Based on the results of the analysis, conclusions have been prepared on the prospects for the development of high technology in Russia.
