Abstract

Being a women entrepreneur is presented in the literature as either a difficulty or a solution to work‒family and work‒life conflict. Since these two conflicts increase entrepreneurs' life stress and reduce career satisfaction, they deserve a better understanding. The life narrative analysis of 29 women entrepreneurs who actually created their own business provides deeper insight into the reasons for their career choice within the context of a whole-life story. Three cases emerge, based on women entrepreneurs' perceptions of articulating work life and private life. Four criteria explain the work‒life articulation: the entrepreneur's lifecycle, the business lifecycle (and the conjunction between these two criteria), spousal support, and the entrepreneur's motivation for creating the business.
