The growing importance of diversification activities for French farm households

Abstract

En France, on constate l'augmentation de la participation des épouses à une activité professionnelle hors de l'exploitation. L'objectif de cet article est de savoir si la réforme de la PAC va accentuer ou non ce phénomène. En se basant sur le modèle néoclassique du ménage agricole, il est tout d'abord précisé quelles variables influencent les décisions de travail du ménage agricole. Puis l'impact de la politique agricole commune sur la participation à une activité hors de l'exploitation est étudiée. L'application porte sur des exploitations agricoles françaises. Les résultats économétriques permettent de constater que si la réforme de la PAC va augmenter la participation à une activité hors de l'exploitation des épouses, les effets positifs du niveau de formation et de l'âge sont plus importants. De plus, des simulations montrent que l'impact de la réforme est plus important pour les épouses n'ayant pas de diplômes d'études secondaires.
