Intertemporal and interfirm heterogeneity : implications for pesticide productivity

Abstract

Cet article met en évidence l'existence et les implications d'effets d'hétérogénéité pour l'estimation de la productivité marginale des pesticides. Il prolonge les travaux des auteurs concernant les effets fixes qui déplacent de manière homothétique l'espérance conditionnelle de la production. En particulier, il considère les implications de déplacements temporels de l'élasticité de la productivité marginale des intrants, c'est-à-dire des déplacements non homothétiques de la production. L'importance et la structure de l'hétérogénéité du secteur français des grandes cultures sont d'abord présentées afin d'illustrer l'existence d'une hétérogénéité en terme d'économétrie des fonctions de production. En particulier, les auteurs rappellent l'éventuelle existence de biais associés à l'omission de ces types d'hétérogénéité (interindividuelle et intertemporelle) pour l'estimation de la productivité des pesticides. Une méthode d'inférence robuste à ces biais, dérivée des travaux de Chamberlain (1982 et 1984), est présentée et mise en oeuvre. L'existence d'effets individuels et temporels fixes est confirmée statistiquement de même que celle de la variation intertemporelle de l'élasticité de la productivité marginale espérée des intrants.
