La recherche-intervention : fondements et pratiques

Abstract

Pour un chercheur en gestion, il y a deux façons de concevoir le rapport de la recherche à la pratique. Le mode le plus répandu en sciences sociales est d'adopter un point de vue d'extériorité par rapport à son terrain d'étude comme gage de scientificité. Dans cette perspective, beaucoup préfèrent travailler sur des matériaux « froids » (données existantes, statistiques, rapports) sans lien direct avec la pratique. Cette extériorité est problématique dès lors que les chercheurs étudient des matériaux « chauds », c'est-à-dire des problèmes et des enjeux d'actualité pour les entreprises. Dans ce cas-là, les sources accessibles viennent généralement à manquer. Des formes d'interactions avec le terrain sont alors inévitables sous la forme, a minima d'entretiens et parfois d'observations. La plupart des manuels de méthodologie recommandent d'adopter une position de neutralité vis-à-vis du terrain et d'éviter toute interférence entre observateur et observé . A l'inverse de ces démarches, un deuxième type de relation au terrain, plus engagé, a été développé en France et à l'étranger, sous l'appellation de « recherche-intervention » (David, 2012, Hatchuel, 1994) ou de « recherche collaborative » (collaborative research) (Shani et al., 2007). A l'inverse des démarches précédentes, la recherche-intervention s'appuie, à la manière des anthropologues, sur une immersion dans l'organisation en vue de conduire une intervention, c'est-à-dire d'accompagner ou de susciter une transformation des organisations. C'est à ce type de recherche que ce chapitre est consacré. Nous allons tout d'abord rappeler brièvement les origines et le dispositif de la recherche-intervention, puis présenter un récit d'intervention qui illustre les apports d'une telle démarche à la recherche et aux praticiens.
