Développement durable et entreprises : du concept à la typologie

Abstract

Débats publics, conférences, concertations, nul ne peut plus nier que le contexte est aujourd'hui résolument tourné vers le développement durable. Concept " caméléon ", " multiforme " ou " pluridimensionnel " pour certains, " polymorphe " ou " fourre-tout " pour d'autres, le développement durable souffre pourtant d'une cruelle absence de consensus dans le monde de la recherche en sciences de gestion. Face à l'éclectisme dont font preuve les travaux sur le sujet, cette recherche participe aux réflexions autour de la traduction du concept de développement durable pour l'entreprise. Paraphrasant quelque peu F.Caudron, elle tente de montrer que, penser la durabilité dans l'entreprise (et au-delà) suppose de déconstruire un certain nombre d'hypothèses tenues pour " naturelles " par les théoriciens du référentiel financier, alors qu'elles sont, en réalité, des constructions sociales liées à une façon de concevoir le comportement humain. Cet effort de clarification du corpus théorique, permet de proposer les bases d'une typologie des principaux concepts et théories, susceptibles de conduire à une clarification du concept et de ses implications pour l'entreprise. En s'appuyant sur une étude empirique réalisée auprès des directeurs du développement durable des principales entreprises françaises, cette recherche, par la richesse des informations qu'elle dégage, précise non seulement les enjeux et les limites de l'interprétation du concept par les entreprises, mais permet également d'enrichir la réflexion académique sur le sujet en définissant les prémisses d'un nouveau référentiel théorique. Ainsi, satisfaisant à ses objectifs, elle ouvre la voie à de nouvelles pistes de recherche et confirme bien que dans ce domaine peu a été fait et beaucoup reste à faire.
