Enquête sur le trésor caché des couples mono-actifs

Abstract

A partir des Enquêtes Budget des Famillesde l’INSEE, ce travail propose d’étudier les différences de consommation entre les couples bi-actifs et mono-actifs. Alors qu’une précédente étude 1'a montré que toutes choses égales par ailleurs un couple mono-actif consacrait en moyenne une heure quotidienne de plus qu’un couple bi-actif aux tâches domestiques, nous tentons ici d’évaluer les éventuelles économies qui en découlent pour le ménage. En recourant à deux méthodes d’estimation différentes, l’une par régression multilinéaire, l’autre par matching il ressort qu’à revenu égal, les ménages mono-actifs dépensent en moyenne environ 2 000 euros de moinsque les ménages bi-actifs tousles ans. Néanmoins, il n’est pas certain que la totalité de cette somme soit imputable àun surplus de travail domestique : il peut également s’expliquer par des comportementsd’épargne différents. Notons que ce chiffre est légèrement inférieur au montant de 2 700 euros annuels qui correspond à la valorisation au SMIC horaire net de l’heure de travail domestique supplémentaire Classification-JEL :
