Abstract

La econom´ıa es una ciencia social que estudia coomo los individuos y las sociedades eligen utilizar recursos escasos para producir bienes y servicios que satisfacen sus necesidades. En especial, lo concerniente a la satisfacci´on de necesidades sera el punto de partida de estos apuntes sobre las teor´ıas del Consumo. Vamos a suponer que buena parte de las necesidades de los individuos y las sociedades son satisfechas gracias al consumo de bienes y servicios. "El consumo es el ´unico prop´osito final de toda produccion: y el interes del productor deber´ıa ser atendido solamente en tanto pueda ser necesario para promover el del consumidor" (Smith, 1776). Precisamente para hacer mas clara la importancia del consumo como variable econ´omica y comprender sus determinantes, la primera parte del actual curso de Macroeconom´ıa Avanzada I del Departamento de Economıa de la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana se concentra en este tema de estudio.
