El homicidio en los tiempos del Plan Colombia

Abstract

En el breve periodo comprendido entre el ano 2000 y el 2006, la tasa de homicidios en Colombia se redujo cerca de 40 %. Mientras en 2000, cerca de 28.000 personas fueron victimas de homicidio; en 2006, esta cifra se redujo a cerca de 18.000 casos. Esta sustancial reduccion del homicidio en el pais coincidio con la implementación del Plan Colombia ´ (estrategia principalmente enfocada a la destruccion de cultivos ilicitos). Este documento investiga que grupos demográficos y geográficos fueron los mas favorecidos con la ´ reduccion del homicidio en el periodo. Usando información de Estadisticas Vitales, se muestra que la caída del homicidio durante el Plan Colombia fue un fenomeno generalizado por edad, genero y departamento. Todos los departamentos reportaron reducciones de los homicidios, a excepcion de Atlántico, Meta y Nariño donde el homicidio se incremento. Adicionalmente, se encuentra que la reducción en los homicidios de jóvenes entre 15 y 29 anos contribuyo con mas del 50 % de la caida nacional del numero de homicidios. ´ A nivel departamental, la disminucion del homicidio en Antioquia contribuyo con cerca del 50 % de la reduccion del numero de homicidios a nivel nacional.
