Competitividad en el mercado de las administradoras de los fondos para el retiro: El caso de México en el período 1999 – 2005

Abstract

La industria de los ahorros para el retiro de los trabajadores es una de las más recientes en el sector financiero del país. Debido a esto, aún se encuentra en etapa de consolidación con entrada y salida de competidores y niveles de rentabilidad de los más altos dentro del sector financiero. Este trabajo analiza la evolución observada en la estructura de la industria, así como la conducta y el desempeño de las Afores. De acuerdo con los resultados de esta investigación, se infiere que en la medida en que la concentración de la industria continúe reduciéndose, las Afores invertirán más en promoción por administrar fondos; asimismo, la evidencia refuta el ejercicio del poder de mercado de las Afores como factor determinante de su rentabilidad.
