Integrated optimization of airport slot allocation and boarding gate assignment

Abstract

Addressing the challenge of increasing air travel demand within the context of limited resources requires a coordinated optimization of essential airport operations. Airport Slot Allocation (ASA) and Boarding Gate Assignment (GA) are two critical levers for enhancing airport operational efficiency. ASA deals with the strategic distribution of limited departure and arrival time slots among flights while considering the preferences of airlines. GA involves the practical assignment of aircraft to specific gates. Conventionally, both problems are studied in isolation, which overlooks their inherent interdependencies.
