Can the informatization of public services empower corporate carbon emission reduction? A quasi - natural experiment from “information benefits the people” pilot

Abstract

This study takes Chinese listed companies from 2011 to 2020 as research samples and uses the “Information Benefits the People” pilot policy as an exogenous policy shock to test the impact of government public service informatization on corporate carbon emissions (CCE). The study finds that government public service informatization significantly reduces CCE, and the improvement of digital inclusive finance level and the rationalization of industrial structure level are important pathways. In further analysis, the impact of government public service informatization on CCE exhibits multidimensional heterogeneity.
