Media public opinion and corporate related-party transactions

Abstract

This paper takes listed companies in China from 2013 to 2023 as the research sample to empirically analyze the impact of media public opinion on corporate related-party transactions. The study finds that positive media public opinion significantly promotes corporate related-party transactions, while negative media public opinion significantly suppresses them. Mechanism tests indicate that corporate governance level plays a significant mediating role in the relationship between positive media public opinion and corporate related-party transactions, and likewise, corporate governance level also plays a significant mediating role in the relationship between negative media public opinion and corporate related-party transactions.
