Abstract

This study investigates the impact of Internet finance on resident consumption using regional panel data spanning 2014 to 2023. The results show that Internet finance significantly boosts subsistence, development-oriented, and enjoyment-oriented consumption, with the largest effect on development-oriented and the smallest on subsistence consumption. Internet finance stimulates consumption by enhancing willingness and easing financial constraints. Additionally, the impact exhibits nonlinear threshold effects related to financial availability and accessibility. This research uncovers the internal logic and boundary conditions of the influence of Internet finance on consumption.
