Abstract

MSW co-incineration in coal-fired power plants is becoming a promising technology. In this paper, MSW pyrolysis char is produced from a 200 t/d MSW pyrolysis DEMO, and the PM emission characteristics of MSW pyrolysis char co-incineration with coal are studied in a drop furnace. By co-incinerating MSW pyrolysis char with coal, the research explores the patterns of PM and NOx/SO2 formation. The addition of MSW pyrolysis char to coal reduces the mass concentration of submicron and super micron particulate matters due to interactions between alkali metals in char and Si-Al-Ca oxides in coal. Co-incineration of MSW pyrolysis char with coal significantly reduces PM emissions. Submicron particulate matters from MSW pyrolysis char incineration are mainly composed of K, Cl, S, Ca, Fe, and Si, with increasing particle size leading to higher contents of Ca, Si, and Fe in super micron particulate matters. EDS analysis of MSW pyrolysis char fly ash reveals the presence of NaCl and KCl crystals in submicron particulate matters. MSW pyrolysis char co-incineration with coal can effectively reduce NOx/SO2 emissions. Co-incineration of MSW pyrolysis char with coal significantly reduces the emissions of inhalable particulate matters and pollutants, aligning with global carbon neutrality goals.
