Abstract

Can governments, banks, and enterprises strike a digital collaboration to rectify corporate greenwashing in the dual context of digital empowerment and rising environmental pollution? This study examine how corporate greenwashing is affected by government-bank-enterprise digital collaboration (GBEC) using data from 2011 to 2022. The findings demonstrate how governments, banks, and enterprises can work together digitally to reduce corporate greenwashing significantly. This study also identifies three critical mechanisms—the technical effect, management effect and capital effect. Additionally, GBEC can greatly reduce corporate greenwashing behavior to state-owned firms, highly polluting firms, and firms with low environmental regulation. Subsequent investigation shows that the impact of GBEC on greenwashing is moderated by isomorphic pressure. This study bridges the gap in the studies by offering a fresh study viewpoint for advancing firm social responsibility and rectifying corporate greenwashing practices in the digital age.
