Abstract

Utilizing panel data from 206 prefecture-level cities in China spanning the years 2010 to 2017, this study examines the effects of agriculture-tourism integration on the urban-rural income gap. The findings indicate that: First, agriculture-tourism integration exerts a significant inhibitory effect on the urban-rural income disparity. Second, mechanism analysis reveals that this integration primarily enhances rural residents' income levels by accelerating agricultural modernization and bolstering rural brand competitiveness, thereby contributing to a reduction in the urban-rural income gap. Heterogeneity analysis further demonstrates notable differences in how agriculture-tourism integration impacts this income gap; specifically, its effect is more pronounced in regions characterized by higher levels of cultural and tourism integration as well as greater rural digitalization.
