Abstract

•Traditional symmetric methods tend to offer a single “best-fitting” model.•Asymmetric approaches are designed to address complex phenomena.•FsQCA is most effective approach for uncovering multiple sufficient configurations.•NCA identifies single necessary conditions but necessity in-degree.•NConfA is suitable for identifying necessary combinations of factors.
