Containerschifffahrt in stürmischen Zeiten – Analyse und Ausblick

Abstract

Knapp 80% der EU-Exporte in Nicht-EU-Mitgliedsländer werden per Schiff transportiert. Folglich sind die Lieferkettenstörungen während der Pandemie eng mit dem Markt der Containerschifffahrt verbunden. Es fallen zwei wichtige Trends auf: die zunehmende Marktkonzentration und die Größe der Containerschiffe, die eine geringere Flexibilität, geringere Schifffrequenzen und konzentriertere Routenangebote als Nebeneffekte haben. Die Folgen der pandemiebedingten Einschränkungen und die längerfristigen Tendenzen in der Schifffahrtsbranche deuten darauf hin, dass sich der Containerschiffsverkehr immer mehr zu einem Engpass für den internationalen Handel entwickelt.
