Hybrid War – A Reality Of The Contemporary World; Concept, Model, Implications

Abstract

The current global security environment is characterized by high complexity, with hybrid threats and hybrid warfare being its defining features. Understanding the true dimension of modern warfare means outlining the typology of hybrid threats, clarifying the concept of hybrid warfare and, last but not least, highlighting the role of various state and non-state actors in the dynamics of global power relations. In recent decades, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has delivered innovative strategic concepts in efforts to combat hybrid threats. The purpose of this article is to establish a conceptual basis for describing hybrid threats and to analyze the role of NATO and the US in shaping the global security environment, pointing out the evolution of NATO's strategic concept of security and presenting US strategic options for the future of the security environment in the perspective of 2035.
