Abstract

The main environmental impact associated with global climate change of the Earth - the greenhouse effect is mainly caused by mining, processing and burning of fossil fuels: coal, oil and gas. Kazakhstan is a significant source of greenhouse gas emissions in the Earth’s atmosphere. According to the relative greenhouse gas emission rate per unit of gross domestic product, Kazakhstan takes the first place in the world, as reported by the International Energy Agency. The country takes the twenty-third place in the world on absolute GHG emissions and is the third among the CIS countries. The large amount of emissions is due to the predominant use of low-grade coal in Kazakhstan’s energy sector and the lack of implementation of alternative sources of energy.
