The Competitiveness Of The Destination And The Development Of Tourism In Romania: Problems And Challenges

Abstract

Tourism can create competitive interest for a state, thus contributing to its economic development and a proper evaluation of its products worldwide. Romania experienced the strongest development of tourism after 1989, after joining the European Union, positioning itself, step by step, as a tourist destination on the map of Europe, the membership giving it confidence. However, a few authors have indicated on the challenges facing the state in terms of sustainable tourism development and competitiveness. This study talks about issues that have affected and will continue to affect the tourism in Romania. Despite its great potential, the development of tourism in Romania remains hampered by many problems such as the image of the destination, the development of infrastructure, training and education of the workforce. In this study we offer a series of arguments for the benefit of its tourism potential, underlining the perspectives, opportunities and risks connected with its global integration.
