Abstract

Since the 2000s, mainly, a transition process occurred in the main Latin American economies in terms of dynamics of direct investment flows (FDI), where the income of these capitals came to be accompanied by local investment on outside. In this sense, the present work aims to make a comparative analysis related to the sectoral evolution of entry of foreign companies in the services sector in Brazil in relation to Brazilian companies operating abroad. For the achievement of the work, data extracted from the UNCTAD and the Central Bank of Brazil databases are used and adapted Grubel and Lloyd index for sectoral FDI stocks applied. In terms of contributions to knowledge, the application of adapted index for FDI stocks enables the process of measuring the internationalization of services sector to be advanced. In addition, it is possible to find a more adequate understanding of the low degree of internationalization in some companies in the service sector, which is a feature present in the Brazilian economy and in many other countries, especially the Latin American economies.
