Abstract

In einem größeren Forschungsprojekt für die österreichischen Bundesländer hat das WIFO die ökonomischen Effekte des demographischen Wandels auf die österreichischen Regionen analysiert. Der vorliegende Teilbericht fasst die Ergebnisse zusammen und zieht wirtschaftspolitische Schlussfolgerungen. Demnach sind erhebliche wirtschaftliche Einbußen aus den derzeit absehbaren Veränderungen von Dynamik und Struktur der Bevölkerung für Österreichs Regionen wenig wahrscheinlich. Dennoch wird der ökonomische Entwicklungspfad in den Regionen (auch) dadurch bestimmt sein, wieweit es der Wirtschaftspolitik gelingt, den alterungsbedingten Wandel wachstumsoptimierend zu begleiten. Der Teilbericht grenzt daher wesentliche Handlungsfelder für eine solche Politik auf der Ebene der österreichischen Bundesländer ab und benennt sinnvolle Maßnahmen in Familienpolitik, Migrations- und Integrationspolitik, Beschäftigungspolitik, Standortpolitik und Verkehrspolitik.
