Abstract

The debate at the national level on the revision of regional border in Italy is conducted mainly according to many multi-disciplinary approaches but the purely economic and territorial one, which is substantially excluded. In addition, the intense discussion on the costs attributable to the activities of the regions and their number in Italy has so far not led to good proposals on the adoption of objective criteria to identify any new boundaries. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to recover from the scientific literature more strictly economic elements, useful to address the problem in a different way than the ones so far privileged, i.e. taking into account at least the criteria of efficiency and.
