Különböznek-e a roma és nem roma diákok nem kognitív képességeikben?
[Do Roma and non-Roma students differ in their non-cognitive abilities?]

Abstract

Tanulmányunk azt vizsgálja, hogy a roma és nem roma diákok különböznek-e három, az érzelmi stabilitáshoz kötődő nem kognitív képességben: kontrollhelyben, önbecsülésben és depresszióban. Három fő eredményünk van. Egyrészt, a nyers mutatószámok alapján a vizsgált nem kognitív képességek terén a magyarországi roma diákok átlagosan rosszabbul állnak, mint nem roma társaik, bár a különbség az önbecsülésben nem szignifikáns. Másrészt, a roma és nem roma diákok közötti különbségek a nem kognitív képességekben jóval kisebbek, mint a kognitív képességben. Harmadrészt, a különbséget teljes mértékben megmagyarázzák az otthoni és az iskolai környezettel kapcsolatos változók. Pontosabban, a kontrollhelyben és a depresszióban fennálló szignifikáns nyers különbség eltűnik, amikor figyelembe vesszük az otthoni környezettel kapcsolatos tényezőket. Bár a nyers adatok alapján a nem roma diákok önbecsülése (nem szignifikánsan) magasabb, az otthoni és az iskolai környezetet figyelembe véve a roma diákok rendelkeznek szignifikánsan magasabb önbecsüléssel. Az eredmények azt sugallják, hogy az otthoni környezet javítására irányuló szakpolitika csökkentheti a roma és nem roma diákok között a nem kognitív képességekben talált különbségeket.* Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) kód: D01, D64, D91.
